WPD LGBTQ+ Liaison Officer to join us in studio …

This past September the City of Worcester and the Worcester Police Department appointed Officer Sharon McQueen as the Department’s new LGBTQ Liaison Officer.

The LGBTQ Liaison Officer position was created in 2014 to focus on the public safety needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning communities. The officer promotes public safety projects and programs aimed at establishing a closer more effective dialogue between the police and the LGBTQ community and also attends and contributes to pride-related events and programs, fostering positive relations between the LGBTQ community and the Worcester Police Department.

“My administration is committed to making city government across all departments more accessible, inclusive and welcoming to every community in our city,” said City Manager Augustus. “The LGBTQ Liaison Officer position plays a vital role in making sure all gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender residents and visitors feel safe here.”

“The position of the LGBTQ Liaison Officer is an opportunity to build upon relationships and strengthen partnerships in the LBGTQ community. Officer Sharon McQueen will be able serve as a valuable resource for Worcester’s LGBTQ community members by focusing on public safety needs as well as addressing concerns and encouraging feedback,” said Chief Sargent.

Officer McQueen joined the Worcester Police Department in 1987. She has been involved in the LGBTQ community for more than 30 years. As an officer, she has worked in the operations, Great Brook Valley Strike Force, Traffic/Accident Reconstruction, Service and Court Divisions.
