WWII Honor Roll finally replaced….

The City of Worcester hosted the unveiling of the Citizens of Color World War II Honor Roll at the World War I Memorial at Lincoln Square.

The mayor, City Manager and several other dignitarires gathered under a heated tent infront of the old Voke School to address the crowd.

South High School Jr ROTC posted the Colors to begin the ceremony.  Cadets Darius, Lugo, Cesar and Barrientos marched in, presented Arms and held through the National Anthem

The monument was taken down roughly 50 years ago when I-290 was being constructed across Worcester. Until now, it hasn’t been replaced. The original honor roll (pictured below) lists the names of 145 citizens of color,

The effort to replace the monument has been lead over the past few years by community leader and recent District 1 City Council candidate Bill Coleman.
